Chime Biologics, a global biologics CDMO dedicated to enabling partners’ success, announced the inauguration of its GMP-2 manufacturing facility in Wuhan, China, further expanding its capacity to support growing global demand for biologics. The new facility is equipped with eight 2,000-liter single-use Xcellerex bioreactors from Cytiva, a Danaher company and a leader in the life sciences industry, providing flexible and efficient capacity to support scale-up from discovery to delivery, while maintaining consistent quality.
Jimmy Wei, Board Director and CEO, Chime Biologics, says:” From the world’s first KUBio commercial biosimilars facility in 2016 to today’s GMP-2 launch and future Megafactory vision, Cytiva has been an important strategic partner throughout our growth journey. As the global biologics industry continues evolving toward more complex and increasingly commercial-stage pipelines, we believe next-generation manufacturing platforms must combine flexible capacity, intelligent operations, and accelerated scalability to better support our global partners’ long-term success.”
This latest expansion builds on a decade of collaboration between Cytiva and Chime Biologics. The company’s first manufacturing facility was built using the KUBio modular manufacturing platform. The platform supported Chime Biologics’ growth from early-stage development to global commercial manufacturing, enabling a phased and efficient scale-up approach which aligned to customer needs.
Allen Li, President of Cytiva in China, says: “Chime Biologics’ continued expansion reflects how flexible and scalable manufacturing solutions are helping biopharma companies respond to growing global demand. At Cytiva, we remain committed to supporting our customers in China and globally with trusted technologies and consistent quality - contributing to a more resilient and increasingly diversified global biomanufacturing landscape.”
Chime Biologics also announced plans on investing in a new AI-powered Megafactory with over 100 2,000L bioreactors, which is expected to become the single largest biologics manufacturing campus in China.
The expansion further reinforces Chime Biologics’ position as a globally-oriented CDMO, with overseas markets already accounting for approximately 50% of total order value. Following the commissioning of the new GMP-2 facility, the company expects to increase the share of revenue from markets outside China to around 70% over the next five years.
