oppan (TYO: 7911), a global leader in communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, and Düsseldorf-based subsidiary Toppan Europe GmbH will participate in Paris Packaging Week 2023, which will be held on January 25 and 26 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

Paris Packaging Week covers a wide range of topics, including connected packaging, eco-design, the metaverse, recent European legislation, customer experience, and design. It comprises four events: PCD, focusing on perfume, cosmetics, and personal care packaging; PLD, showcasing packaging for wine, spirits, and other premium drinks; ADF, for aerosol packaging and dispensing systems; and the newly added Packaging Première, which will feature packaging for luxury products such as accessories, jewelry, and fashion.

The event is expected to see more than 630 participating companies from 80-plus countries and in excess of 10,000 visitors, centered on representatives of leading global brands for cosmetics and other high-end goods. Toppan will be taking part for the second consecutive year.

Main solutions on show

Eco-friendly NFC tag label with paper substrate
This is an eco-friendly NFC tag label that uses paper material as the substrate for the antenna instead of PET film or other plastic materials conventionally used. A new circuit fabrication process enables "plastic-free" NFC tags while maintaining communication performance. Fraudulent reapplication of labels is also prevented because the paper material tears easily.

Super mini-sized NFC tag

Toppan has developed two concept models, with diameters of 7 mm and 8 mm, respectively. It is generally difficult to maintain communication performance when the size of the antenna is reduced, but Toppan’s original design preserves the same performance as conventional tags. This means Toppan’s tags can be used for compact containers, such as for small cosmetics products like lipsticks and mascara, as well as vials and syringes used in medical and pharmaceutical settings.

On-metal NFC tag

Metal materials generally inhibit communication between NFC devices, but these NFC tags maintain performance even when attached to metals because of an original design and modifications enabled by Toppan’s unique know-how.

Cloud-based ID authentication platform

This platform is a cloud-based service that enables product authentication, allows brands to provide product information, promotions, and other services, and facilitates supply chain management, including traceability and monitoring of grey market diversion, based on data collected.

Visitors to the Toppan booth will be able to experience the latest security solutions for smart packages via demos covering customer touchpoint creation and supply chain management.
