Azenta Life Sciences Expands Low DNA Binding Consumables To Support Sensitive NGS Workflows

02 February 2026 | Monday | News

Designed for low input and automation driven sequencing environments, Azenta’s low DNA binding plates and consumables help minimise sample loss, improve data consistency, and strengthen confidence in high sensitivity molecular biology applications.

Azenta Life Sciences offers a range of low binding consumables that deliver consistent performance from sensitive applications that require low DNA input such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

As next-generation sequencing workflows continue to evolve, laboratories are increasingly working with smaller amounts of DNA and RNA and relying more heavily on automation to deliver consistency at scale. Azenta Life Sciences’ Low DNA Binding consumables product range offers a practical option for laboratories looking to reduce avoidable sample loss and ensure reliable molecular biology workflows.

Polypropylene consumables are a standard choice for PCR and sequencing applications due to their chemical resistance and thermal stability. However, at low nucleic acid concentrations, interactions between DNA or RNA and plastic surfaces can become more noticeable, particularly across multiple handling and incubation steps. Azenta Life Sciences proprietary range of Low DNA Binding consumables uses carefully selected polypropylene polymers designed to minimise this interaction.  For applications such as NGS library preparation, where small losses can have a cumulative effect, reducing unnecessary binding can contribute to more consistent outcomes.

The Low DNA Binding range includes FrameStar® PCR plates in 96- and 384-well formats. These combine thin-walled polypropylene wells for efficient thermal transfer with rigid polycarbonate frames that support accurate robotic handling and stable thermal cycling. Extra-rigid skirted designs further support use on high-throughput systems where precise alignment and plate stability are critical. The range also includes low binding storage and deep well plates designed to support common NGS preparation steps, including magnetic bead-based clean-up workflows.

Avash Anderson, Product Manager at Azenta Life Sciences, said: “Azenta’s Low DNA Binding consumables deliver the quality and consistency needed for reliable molecular biology workflows. All products are certified free from human genomic DNA, nucleases, and pyrogens, and undergo rigorous testing - including leak testing and PCR performance verification - giving laboratories confidence in even the most sensitive applications.”

In an independent comparative study evaluating Low Binding PCR plates, Azenta products showed no significant loss of DNA after incubation, while other commercially available low binding plates demonstrated DNA loss at low starting concentrations, indicated by an increased Ct value.
